      NOTICE RELATING TO STAMP DUTY LAND TAX Following the Government's budget announcement the Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) temporary increase to the thresholds is due to end on 31st March 2025 and SDLT rates are to increase from 1st April 2025. Please note that we will try our best to achieve completion as soon as reasonably possible but we cannot guarantee completion before 31st March 2025. We strongly advise you to plan your finances accordingly to take this and any increase in SDLT as may be applicable to your transaction into account.     Who we are

    We are a small long established firm with a sound reputation for friendly and efficient service, offering a broad range of legal services to clients both local and international, with particular expertise in domestic and commercial conveyancing, family law, and wills and probate.

    We are based in West Suffolk, with offices in the historic market towns of Newmarket and Mildenhall. The service we offer is a personal one with mature, approachable, fully qualified staff who are happy to deal with matters in whichever way you prefer – in person, by phone, letter or email. We understand that using a lawyer can sometimes be daunting so we endeavour to use plain English and avoid jargon where possible.

Some of our services can be dealt with on a fixed fee basis, such as straightforward wills, uncontested divorces, lasting power of attorney, conveyancing and debt collection letters. The list of services is not exhaustive so, if the matter which interests you is not included, please contact us anyway as we have a wide experience of the law.

    We have client private parking at Mildenhall and public parking within very easy walking distance of our Newmarket office. Both offices have ground floor interview rooms and home or hospital visits can be arranged, where necessary.     ANDREW JOHN GEDDES

    Senior Partner

    Admitted as a solicitor in 1967 Andrew deals with Conveyancing, Wills & Probate and Commercial Law. Andrew worked in London before joining Bendall & Sons in 1976 Andrew deals with his Clients in a friendly and clear manner and has many referrals.

    ANTHONY SCOTT

    Partner

    Anthony is head of the firm’s Family Law and Civil Litigation department and joined Bendall and Sons in 2012. Anthony is a member of Resolution, a national organisation of family lawyers committed to assisting clients resolve their family affairs in an amicable and non-hostile fashion. He is an Accredited Family law Specialist with Resolution with many years of experience advising clients on all aspects of family law including divorce, separation, cohabitation and disputes regarding property, financial arrangements following divorce and/or separation, issues relating to children (including public law proceedings brought by Social Services) and also has experience assisting families regarding Inheritance Act claims. Anthony has children of his own and having been through his own divorce is well aware of how difficult separation/divorce can be to those involved.

    TANIA BAILEY

    COFA and Finance Manager

    Tania deals with Small Claims Debt matters under the supervision of Andrew Geddes. Clients have complemented on her prompt and efficient service. Tania joined Bendall & Sons in 2002 to run their Finance Department, prior to joining Bendall & Sons she worked for a shipping and commodities law firm in the City of London, where she was also the Finance Manager. She is also a member of ILFM (Institute of Legal Finance and Management) For relaxation she likes to keep fit and socialise with friends and family.

    LYN STONEBROOK

    Licensed Conveyancer

    Licenced Conveyancer qualified in 1997 Lyn joined Bendall & Sons in 2017 and leads the Conveyancing team at our Mildenhall office and specialises in residential conveyancing, particularly new build properties. She was previously a Legal Manager for one of the large house builders. Clients have expressed that they are impressed with Lyn’s thoroughness and professionalism in dealing with their matters, whilst also keeping them updated with clear and concise information Outside of work, Lyn likes walking her dogs and going to the theatre and also does knitting for a charity and is a Treasurer to a local Christian charity.

    SYEDA ANJUM

    Solicitor

    Syeda joined Bendall & Sons in September 2024 as a Conveyancing Solicitor. She studied law at BPP Law School, Holborn, where she completed her LLB, followed by her LPC and a Master’s in Law. After her studies, she gained valuable experience as a paralegal at a well-regarded London law firm, specializing in property transactions for both corporate and private clients. Her dedication and expertise earned her a training contract, and after qualifying as a Solicitor, she made the move to Bendall & Sons.

    Syeda’s passion for conveyancing grew naturally through her work as a paralegal, where she developed a deep understanding of the field. Known for her exceptional client care, she consistently goes above and beyond to ensure smooth and timely transactions, always putting her clients’ needs first.

    JAMIE GREEN

    Partner

    Jamie joined our Private Client department at our Newmarket office in November 2020, having been admitted as a Solicitor in August 2020. Prior to this, he completed his Law degree at St Mary’s University, before completing his Masters degree in Legal Practice at BPP University in Cambridge. Jamie deals with Wills, Powers of Attorney and all aspects of estates and probate. In his spare time, he enjoys music, football and reading

    RACHEL LOUISE SMITH

    Solicitor

    Rachel works in the Private Client department in our Newmarket office, dealing with Wills, Powers of Attorney and matters relating to Probate. She manages both Newmarket and Mildenhall clients. She joined us in 2018 as a Paralegal and successfully undertook her training with the firm to qualify as a Solicitor in 2021. Prior to this she completed her Law degree at the University of Lincoln and finished the Legal Practice Course, with a Distinction, at BPP University Cambridge. In her spare time she likes to horse ride and performs with a local theatre company.

    CARLA EVERITT

    Paralegal

    Carla works in our conveyancing department at our Mildenhall office. She joined us back in 2016, Carla worked at Stevens Solicitors for 10 years where she gained the majority of her experience. Carla enjoys socialising with family and friends.

    Paul Exton

    Conveyancing Paralegal

    Paul Graduated from university with honours in Law and was originally a specialist case handler for four years at Citizen Advice; he was then sworn in and still sits as a Magistrate for the Adult Criminal Bench in Cambridgeshire since 2019 before moving to conveyancing in 2021. Paul currently works out of the Newmarket office and assists with all aspects of the conveyancing process. In his spare time he keeps active through his Thai boxing, enjoys reading & collecting and reviewing whisky.
