Our Aim

Who we are

As our clients, you are our main concern; we will endeavour to resolve your problems with straightforward honest advice based upon our extensive knowledge and expertise. We pride ourselves on being independent and approachable, offering a friendly, mature and ethical service. We aim to guide you through often difficult times with as little stress as possible. Much of our business comes from repeat work through our long standing client base and through word of mouth recommendations.

Our Fees

We are here to help and in the most cost effective way for you. In this respect we have made a conscious

decision not to join estate agents’ panels as we refuse to pay commission or referral fees for client recommendations. This is a serious consideration which you should check when requesting quotations from estate agents and other solicitors as such costs will invariably be passed on to you.

Our rates are highly competitive, for example our wills service starts at a very reasonable £200 + VAT for a straightforward single will and £320 + VAT for 2 straightforward similar Wills for a couple. Other fixed fee services include uncontested divorce, basic debt recovery, and most property related matters. If you would like a quotation please complete our Enquiry Form and a member of staff will contact you.

Communication

We understand how intimidating and confusing some legal jargon can be and we try to keep it to a minimum. We communicate with our clients in plain English and will keep you informed every step of the way. We also try to accommodate our clients’ needs with home or hospital visits and out-of-hours consultations when necessary. We have disabled access with downstairs interview rooms at both of our offices.

History

Thomas Partridge Bendall established his legal practice in Rous Road, Newmarket in 1880, joined some twenty years later by his sons Reginald and Archie. Between 1910-12 the firm expanded with new offices in Soham, Ely and Mildenhall. When Archie died in 1935 the firm was acquired by the Morgan & Nicholls partnership, neither of whom survived much beyond WWII. Geoff Roberts bought into the practice in 1947, gradually buying out his partners to become sole principal in 1955. By the end of the 1970s Geoff had been joined by four partners, including Andrew Geddes. In 1983 the partners decided to go their separate ways and the Ely and Soham offices became independent practices. Geoff continued in the practice with Andrew until 2000. Today Andrew, together with his partner Anthony Scott, and a qualified team of solicitors, licensed conveyancer and legal executive work from both offices offering a broad range of services with particular expertise in residential and commercial conveyancing, family law and wills and probate.

All photographs on this site were taken in and around Newmarket and Mildenhall. The sculpture on our home page is The Newmarket Stallion by Marcia Astor and Allan Sly, installed in the year 2000 at the Stetchworth Toll roundabout adjacent to the National Stud.
